Bird book project
This collection of O Henry novels were red canvas. I painted them with paint with primer in it. The covers are just painted. I did three coats and the red kept bleeding through. I went to Home Depot and talked to the paint sales associates and they advised me to get a spray paint designed to stop bleed through. The spray paint worked the treat in just to spray sessions. From there I was able to proceed with the image transfer process.
There are several image transfer processes available. I used the one where you paint a gel medium on the surface. Print a striking black and white image on an inkjet printer. Apply it to the wet painted surface and wait three minutes. Once the paper is partially removed, then spray a finishing top coat to protect it and deepen the print. Next I filled in and darken the image in places using a permanent fine line pen drawing in areas. The books are not destroyed, they are fully readable with a new upcycled point of enjoyment.
Needing bookends, I came across some cement birds in an online auction that were a fortune. After losing my bid, I spied these blue and green birds in a cheap store gardening department. I deciding to paint them the color of doves, they turned out with the same feeling as those fancy french cement ones I saw for a faction of the price!
Birds and the books placed as interior decoration in the wall.
Design choices for this room
Color story
The big brick white wall and the black metal fireplace called out for a black and white theme to the room. The red brick wall added in the trending rust color that is showing up in number one paint colors and trending interior design pallets. Sarah sewed rust color cushions that are a low profile to sit nicely on the low black leather accent chairs.

Metal accents.
The topic of metal accents is a constantly changing trend. Trending and passing and revamped return in lightning speeds depending on the fickle design influencers. Sarah has collected antique sewing machine base furniture. It was perfect for this staging. The black iron called in the Boho blankets.
The BoHo blankets were given to Sarah, the people knew she was working on growing her staging inventory. This really warmed her heart in seeing the generosity of the world around. The blanket pulls in the white, black and rust in the color story of the room.
